Description: "Aupr├Ęs de ma blonde" dates at least as far back as the 17th century and the Dutch War (1762-1768). The lyrics express the longing of a French soldier captured by the Dutch who sings of how beautiful things are back home and how peacefully he sleeps next to his sweetheart. The song crossed the Atlantic and became a standard of the "voyageurs," the French-Canadian fur trappers who sang as they rowed their canoes through the North American wilderness.
