28th Annual "Dulcimer Days" at Roscoe
Village
An Eyewitness Account

On May 17 - 19, 2002 my wife, Theresa and I attended the 28th Annual
"Dulcimer Days" at Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio.
Dulcimer Days is a nice small festival in an air-conditioned pavilion
next to a small lake. There is camping at the site and motels are
close by. Then there is Historic canal town of Roscoe Village which
makes a very charming visit. There are workshops, music vendors,
jam sessions, a Saturday night concert and Sunday morning Gospel
sing.
On Sat. and Sunday there is a contest where individuals compete
on hammered or mountain dulcimer. For the past 10 years, as a way
of providing stage entertainment on Friday evening, Dulcimer Clubs
were allowed to compete for a rotating plaque. For three of those
years, the club which we belong to, Silver Strings Dulcimer Society,
won first place. We were very excited and proud to be involved in
a dulcimer club competition. This year the event is trying
something new. Instead of a club competition on Friday evening,
the event is now a club performance.
Every club which signs up is allowed to perform for about 30 minutes.
This makes for more relaxed performances and a fun evening. This
year 6 clubs braved the stage and provided a wonderful evening of
entertainment:
|
|
Tri-State Dulcimer Club from Huntington,
WV.
|
Standing Stones Strings & Things from Lancaster, Ohio
|
|
|
|
Tri-County Dulcimer Society from Coshocton, Ohio
