William Billings was one of the first great American composers. Here's his most famous anthem, the patriotic revolutionary song, Chester, later adopted for as a shape note hymn:

This week I present a fine old Irish reel.
I find taking a difficult piece and playing it in two separate octave ranges provides a particularly satisfying playing and performance experience in addition to continually improving my playing skills. Many of the Irish D tunes seem especially well suited to this practice.

This week I offer two videos.

The first is a fun traditional Croatian dance tune from my CD, 'Travels with Dulcimers' which nicely demonstrates how well the dulcimer can imitate the sound of a tamburitza band.

The second is a lively old time tune from Alabama played with my fiddling friend Elizabeth at an Austin house concert back in 2011

This week's featured video is another English country dance tune from John Playford's original 1651 edition of the English Dancing Master. The tune is considerably older and the name is obscure as a result.
