Jean Ritchie New Year's Eve

All strummers welcome!

Jean Ritchie New Year's Eve

Postby Pinetop » Sat Dec 19, 2009 3:13 pm

Dear Everything Dulcimer Friends: Could you please sing Jean Ritchie's "Peace Round" at midnight New Year's Eve and encourage friends to do likewise?
1. What a lovely thing. 2. If the children of the earth; 3. Could live together. 4. I-n peace.
The sentiment expressed in the song makes a fitting greeting for 2010, I believe. Perhaps Jean will have recovered enough to sing a bit on New Year's Eve herself. Absent that, wouldn't it be nice to assure her that her words can't be silenced, even by a stroke?
So far, I have assurance that "Peace Round" will ring in the New Year in places in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Kentucky. If you can make Peace Round your midnight Dec. 31 song, could you drop a note here as to where you'll be singing?
And if it's possible, could you post an audio or video of your singing (or rehearsing) for the sake of those poor folks who don't know the song. Also, Jean has many tech-savvy friends who might be able to pull some clips together as a "greeting card" of sorts. -- Mark

Brilliant, Pinetop. I've posted a link to this post through Twitter, so most of my friends on facebook and myspace and livejournal will see it. Let's get going around the world.

Folkfan, thanks for posting the Utube link.

There will be at least one home in Seattle where folks will be singing it.

You'll be singing it a couple of hours later than I'll be singing it, but there is still a feeling that we will all be connected in some mystical way through the force and power of music.

Our dulcimer club just got a gig for New Year's Eve. I will suggest to the club that we work this in to our performance. It is not at midnight. We are performing from 6 - 7 p.m. It will give me the opportunity to suggest to that audience that they join in with us at midnight.

I can't think of a more pleasing tribute for Jean than to have many people singing her "Peace Round" on New Year's Eve!

Thanks for posting the words -- could not quite make them out in the video, tho the tune is quite familiar, of course.

Will share the video & post lyrics on Facebook. What a wonderful thing to participate in.
