Film scores

Postby DulciBob81 » Sat Dec 23, 2017 7:24 am

I saw a youtube video of someone playing a very cool rendition of the Star Trek theme (the one from the 80's movies). I have been playing around with some of my favorite film scores. So far, I've pretty much got down the main theme and imperial march from Star Wars, and the feather theme from Forest Gump was a piece of cake. I'm trying to get Back To The Future, but am having some trouble. And Pirates of the Caribbean theme has me totally thrown. Seems like it may have a lot of accidentals in it. I also plan to take a stab at the Indiana Jones theme as well. Anybody else ever try any of these or others?

I learned my own version of "Story of a Soldier" from "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly". I learned it by the memory of what I thought I heard in the movie, so I liked it but it had some differences. In the last few years I re-learned and can play it more accurately.

I still play my own version of one of the theme songs from "Once Upon A Time In The West". Maybe I'll work on learning the title of the tune and start playing it more accurately in 2018.

I play chords on the dulcimer while singing the theme song from "The Beverly Hillbillies". I also play chords while singing "Davy Crockett" and "Daniel Boone".

I have my own version of one of the songs in "Doctor Zhivago".

There are probably others that I have learned, these are what comes to memory right now.

Very cool, guys. Do either of you have any recordings on youtube?

A couple others I was thinking I would like to try are the themes from Tombstone, Young Guns, and Beverly Hills Cop.

.
On YouTube I have a few songs that are in the soundtracks of movies, though I don't think any of them are themes:

Mamma Mia, from the musical of the same name:

Plus...

Foggy Mountain Breakdown, which was in Bonnie & Clyde: https://youtu.be/xhbjblmuImI

Pinball Wizard, from Tommy: https://youtu.be/mxyUFRholnA

With Cat-Like Tread, from Pirates of Penzance: https://youtu.be/h08VbDZIVJQ

Sousa's Liberty Bell march -- Monty Python TV theme: https://youtu.be/XEk0zZwiQAw

Baba Yetu, theme from the video game Civilization IV: https://youtu.be/hskxlAwRETY

I have a number of other movie songs in my repertoire, as well.

Pinball Wizard wearing a blindfold?! WOW! And yet, Baba Yetu is the one I wish my Ron Ewing dulcimer would learn. ;)

Thank you for the links, Sam E.
