Homer Ledford Dulcimer #4356

Postby Corsa » Fri Aug 10, 2012 10:17 pm

Offered for sale is Homer Ledford dulcimer #4356. This is the dulcimer that I talked about in this thread - http://everythingdulcimer.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27470

I suspect that the first fret is not optimally placed (see thread referenced above) but I have decided to leave it as it came from Homer's shop rather than move the fret. It has a one-piece back, undercut fingerboard, pearl dot inlays and fine tuners. It does not have the 6 1/2 fret. According to the records here: http://www.backroombluegrassband.com/hlccbweb/instruments/hldulcimers4001to5000.htm, it was built in June of 1979.

I'm including the original chipboard case (not pictured) as well as the noter, songbook and spare strings that were in the case when i bought it. Also included in the sale is a TKL hard case (pictured).

REDUCED $600.00 - buyer to pay shipping and insurance.

I would like to sell this to someone from this community but, from the lack of responses here, it appears that I may have overpaid for it originally and thus overpriced it now that I'm trying to sell.

If you're interested in the instrument, please feel free to offer me what you believe is reasonable. I won't take offense. (though I might not accept the offer either :) )

If I can't reach a deal with somebody here, I'll have to put it on eBay and I'd really rather avoid that.

Thanks again for looking.

UPDATE - 3-2-14 - I've since taken the dulcimer back to Warren May in Berea and we compared it to his collection of Homer Ledford dulcimers. It turns out that the fret placement on this dulcimer exactly matches the fret placement on Homer's earlier instruments. It appears this was one of the last ones built before he revised his first fret placement.

For now, the dulcimer is no longer for sale.
