Unicorn Woodworks Dulcimer-*SOLD*

Postby desertdulcimers » Wed Aug 23, 2017 9:38 pm

PRICE REDUCED TO $200 plus $25 shipping.

Offered for sale is a Unicorn Woodworks dulcimer built by Johnie Nicholson on July 29th, 2006. I have accumulated an extensive collection of fine, handpicked dulcimers over the years and will be offering a few for sale over the next couple of months to fund another project. Here are the details:

• Absolutely perfect...better than new as it has aged for 11 years in our humidified music room and been played sparingly. No marks on the dulcimer anywhere.
• Original owner.
• Walnut back, sides, headstock and fretboard…beautiful grain pattern.
• Hand selected tight grained sitka spruce top.
• Custom low action, 26.75” scale length and very easy to play.
• Includes black soft case, selection of new picks, extra strings and I’ll even throw in a set of strap buttons and a strap if you want them.

Unicorn Woodworks dulcimers are a relatively unknown treasure in my opinion…fine craftsmanship, wonderful volume and tone and very easy to play. I have owned lots of dulcimers over the years and these are some of the finest.

Price reduced to $200 with $25 for ground shipping, well packed and fully insured. Payment by check (with a hold) or PayPal (Friends and Family). Post replies on this forum or email with any questions to:

Thanks.

I that Unicorn Woodworks as in Johnie Nicholson?

My first dulcimer was a Unicorn Woodworks dulcimer and I still have it. It's too bad Johnie is not better known. He does really nice work. My dulcimer (mahogany and spruce) has much better sustain than dulcimers that cost much more. It also has a wonderful punch to it, like a fine mandolin.

I hope your dulcimer finds a good home.

Fine looking dulcimer, Steve. Too bad I have reached my limit (for now, anyway).

I hope it finds an appreciative home soon.

Thanks Dusty Turtle and DulciBiker for the positive feedback.

Dusty - yes, this is a Unicorn Woodworks built by Johnie Nicholson. I'll probably regret selling it as it really is a great dulcimer, but like my wife says "you can't keep them all"! It's time to pass this along to someone else who will enjoy and play it.

I'm kind of interested. How versatile is this dulcimer? Is the sound balance good for noter and drone as well as chording?

Hey Paul,

Thanks for the interest. Absolutely, the dulcimer can be played in noter, drone style or chord, melody style. Intonation is near perfect across the entire fret board. Playing with a noter is inherently less dependent on perfect fret placement and intonation, in my opinion, since you're using the frets as "guide" if you will for the noter.

However, chord melody style demands proper fret placement and intonation (especially above the 7th fret) or you will notice the slightly off-notes right away. Unicorn Woodworks dulcimers sound great played either way.

No pressure one way of the other, but just so you know I do have the dulcimer listed on Ebay as well.

Hope I answered your questions.
