Tom Yocky ???

Postby NoGear » Tue Feb 14, 2017 9:21 pm

Anyone know what became of Tom Yocky - dulcimer maker from Texas? I had him build a custom dulcimer for me (I have big hands) he did a wonderful job! Ready for a new one - but no hits on Google or any of the other dulcimer sites? :?:

Any Assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

As far as I know, Tom has left the business.

Thanks Ken,

I looked at the date on the Dulcimer - Dragon and it was 2004!

Time flies when you're having fun!

Other builders would probably be willing and/or thrilled to craft an instrument for you, to your specifications. e.g. wide fretboard.

I do not know if he's for hire or not, but if I were seeking a great instrument and wanted something custom, I'd check into this guy right here: http://www.everythingdulcimer.com/discuss/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=4808

Many others are available, but I think I'd at least see what that guy had going on. Look in the "Dulcimer Maker" forum and you'll find some photos of his work and how it goes together. I think he's in Maryland, but shipping is cheap enough these days.

Best wishes,
- Tony

There is a brand new Yocky that just appeared on eBay, from Tom himself!

He wrote, "I hope to continue building dulcimers in the near and distant future but there is no telling how long it will be again before I have another to sell. If you are wanting an original Yocky dulcimer straight from the builders hands to yours, here is your chance."

Thanks - I checked out the posting on ebay and we are now in touch!

Timing was great - a new dulcimer may be in my future -

Congrats.
Pretty cool how serendipitous things often work out around here.
One cool community of folks, says I.

That does not sound as if Tom is "back in business", as someone else mentioned. It sounds as if his 'real world life' has eased up to the point where he can make and sell an occasional instrument. He's probably not interested in collected a list of 'custom orders'...
