Dulcimer Sweeper

Has anyone ran across the term Dulcimer Sweeper? I hadn't until I read this article

I did an Internet search and did find a few mentions of it mostly describing dulcimer players at music events.

I suspect the term may refer to the style of strumming using a long flexible section of bird feather shaft without the 'feathery bits', where the shaft is "swept" back and forth or in a flattened figure-eight shape nearly parallel to the plane of the strings. Instead of a "strummer" the player is a "sweeper"...
