26 August 2017 PLAY MUSIC ON THE PORCH DAY

Postby dbennett » Sun Aug 20, 2017 4:47 pm

Get out and play your mountain dulcimer

DATE: The Last Saturday in August/SATURDAY, AUGUST 26, 2017
LOCATION: WORLDWIDE! ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE!
TIME: 8AM - 10PM

PLAY MUSIC ON THE PORCH DAY invites musicians/communities to revive the tradition of gathering, singing and playing music outside with friends and family.

Throughout history it was common to hear live music on porches, in yards and on street corners. Musicians would regularly surround themselves with friends and family to sing and play music together. This tradition is being lost as more people only experience music as passive entertainment instead of as a participatory celebration of life.

PLAY MUSIC ON THE PORCH DAY invites musicians to revive the tradition of gathering, singing and playing music outside with friends and family.

On Saturday, August 26th we ask that you get outside and play music! Invite your friends to gather on the porch, in the yard or down on the corner out in the street. Share your talent. Share your passion. Share your music!

Living on a boat, I don't have a porch; but I will be playing on the dock of the bay

That's funny, Ken. I'll be out on the back porch with my instruments and a few friends on Saturday. We'll be playing some of our favorite tunes.

Mark & I are hoping to meet somewhere in a public space between our home (where he lives) and between my folks' home (where I have to live) and play on a porch.

I hope those who played on the porch (or dock or other special place near home) today had a good time. Here is my contribution from my porch.

Dave, I enjoyed your video.

I took Mom & Dad and we met my Sweetheart and favorite guitar picker so he & I could participate in Worldwide Play Music on the Porch Day, 2017. :)

Well done Robin
I think cicadas, sirens, wind, and traffic noise are proof that this tune was recorded on the porch and not some million dollar recording studio.
I had some traffic noise, cicadas, and maybe a little wind noise for my video, but I think my microphone might have been picking up the closest sounds and the other sounds are much lower.

I think it's fun that we have events like this and I encourage others to post their own videos of playing on the porch.

You're right, Dave. And we didn't have a million dollar porch, either. :)
I'm a fan of just seeing folks make music when and where they can. I am and have been a full-time caregiver for my folks so the time with my husband to play music is, indeed, precious.

Not much joy on the river... It's been pouring all week due to the No Name tropical disturbance slowly ambling across the state causing our own share of flooding and high tides in the river. I took my dulcimer up to the mariner's lounge played played off and on most of the day where i.t was dry.

Well done David and others on the porch. It is probably a sin if all of us didn't play some kind of cabbage song on the porch!
