Favicon poll - a bit off topic

Postby marcy » Mon Mar 28, 2005 11:08 am

Hi folks, I've created three favicons (those little icons IE and some other browsers display in the address bar) for my website. I'm still undecided which one I like best, so if you have an opinion please vote. To view each option, visit these pages: http://mp-dulcimer.com (dulcimer) http://mp-dulcimer.tripod.com (partial rosette) http://www.mp.dulcimer.tripod.com (full rosette) (You may need to clear your cache if you've visited any of these pages recently)

#1 is graphic, appropriate and identifiable. I might not have figured out #2 without your explanation (it looks a little like a fist!), and #3 is too busy to make it out easily. (Guess which one I voted for!)

Can't get anything but the full rosette - they all had things that directed you to the same picture. Elizabeth

Those of you who can't see them: go to the indicated page, then (regardless of where it re-directs you ) use the Add to Favorites option on your Favorites menu. The icon will then appear on your favorites list, and in the address bar. At least I had to do that before seeing it. This was in Internet Explorer. I voted for the dulcimer.

Adding it to the favorites list really didn't work. It worked for me on only the dulcimer. Nothing else came up. Play on FF

I'm not talking about any images on the sites themselves but the little tiny icon that appears next to the URL in the navigation or address bar of your browser. As for redirects, there are no automatic redirects. Yes, the second two pages have text telling the viewer that the site has moved. Ignore that text, don't follow that link. Just look at the tiny icon in the address bar. You might have to clear your cache -- even between sites. I'm going to try to display the icons below, too. Image Image Image I keep trying to resize the middle one. It's 32x32, but in my browser it actually displays half that size, and the detail isn't as good. Apparently this board doesn't allow resizing of images.

I think the rosette is good. The top favicon is nice but not as related to what you've been using. Tom

Folkfan, Cache is something browsers use to store page information so pages you've already visited load faster. Check the help section of your browser, or tools, or options, or something along those lines.

Well I deleted all the cookies which meant that I had to sign myself back in again here. But still the only icon I see is the dulcimer. It's cute. Play on, FF
