Jews Harp Concerto in E

Postby dbennett » Wed Mar 16, 2016 8:38 pm

Some people think the Jews harp (aka jaw harp, mouth harp, Ozark harp, trump, or juice harp etc) is nothing but a hill-billy instrument. This instrument is considered to be one of the oldest musical instruments in the world. The Jews harp goes way back into England and Scotland at least to the 1500s if not further and is mentioned in some old English literature, Sir Walter Scott is one author that has mentioned the instrument .

Recently I was looking at Jews Harp Society web page and learned that Johann Georg Albrechtsberger (1736–1809) was an Austrian musician and a teacher of Beethoven and about 1765 he wrote at least seven concerti for Jews harp and strings.
