Why am I having such a difficult time finding a comfortable position for my thumb, where it feels relaxed and not strained ? ! ? !

Probably because of tension. If you follow the hand position regimen that I recommend in the video, the thumb should be relaxed and just resting under the overhang of the top. Many people put the tip of the thumb against the body which forces the hand further from the fingerboard and casuses more tension. This is to be avoided. It's the side of the thumb that rests against the body. Staying relaxed is the most important thing you can do. Let me know if this helps. Hard a access the problem without being able to observe what you are doing.
