Jacob Fredrick Melton (1893-1967) died. Jacob was the son of Samuel (1863-1933) and Maggie (1874-1960) Melton. His mother, Maggie, played the dulcimer with a bow. Jacob married Polina Catherine Whittington (1893-1957) (and later married Georgia Ayers and then Cora Lee Trimble). Jacob made dulcimers and both he and his first wife, Polina, played the dulcimer. Their son Jacob Ray became a noted dulcimer maker and player. Their daughter Ruth was an accomplished dulcimer player having won the first and second dulcimer contests at the Galax Old Fiddlers Convention dulcimer contest both in 1935, among other contests. Jacob Melton also had success in the Galax Old Fiddlers Convention: he won in 1936; and took third place in 1941.
