Roscoe Edwin Russell (1917-1993) died. He was married to Ruth Melton (1917-1980) and was a noted maker and player of Galax-style dulcimers. Roscoe also served in the U.S. Navy.

At the Galax Old Fiddler’s Convention dulcimer contest in 1974 Roscoe won fourth place while his daughter, Bonnie, took first and Raymond Melton won second place.

In 1976 Roscoe won first place, playing Sugar Hill.
