The next step was the back. There is a center stripe of walnut glued between the two book-matched halves. The back is run through the thickness sander and thinned to about 1/8”.

Ladder braces are added to the back:

The ladder braces have been shaped with a slight bit of curvature. The rounding of the back helps project the sound up and out the top. The braces are shaped by rubbing back and forth on a curved block with some rough sandpaper attached:
