Jan18 re-make

Postby Bob Gerard » Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:30 am

Since the first January dulcimer ("Cockeye Joe") wasn't up to par, I re-built a second one, which was also Black Walnut with a Butternut soundboard. Butternut is such a wonderful tone-wood. I am a lot happier in sending this one out.

Very nice, Bob. I like your sound holes and scroll. Both are beautiful. Your position marker for the 6 1/2 fret is unique. I love it. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work.

Bob - that is a really beautiful instrument!

I love the use of the 'stranger from the West' body shape and fiddle edges. I'm quite surprised that none of the bigger commercial dulcimer makers have used this shape because, for me, it is such a classic and so beautiful. The workmanship looks fantastic! I love the fact you have slotted the bridge and nut for all types of set-up, and the marker at the 6+ is a great idea. I've just listened to you playing the instrument on YouTube and it has that old style silvery tone - wonderful 8)

Thanks very much for the wonderful comments! This was the 'second go' at this one and I just took my time in doing it. I am also glad in how it turned out. Patience pays off, as they say.
I hope it's enjoyed being played by the owner as much as I had in creating it.
