Scarlet Ribbons tab

Postby Brooks » Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:54 am

I'm a beginner and my dulcimer is tuned DAA. Any books containing tab for Scarlet Ribbons? I searched a couple of the big tab sites on the web, but could have over-looked it. Thanks! Carol

Haven't seen it in dulcimer tab. LOTS of guitar Accompaniment tab out there.

The first phrase goes:
3..5..4..1..2..4..3..0

see if you can pick out the rest...

The second phrase I play by going down to the bass line for 1 note at the 3rd fret. This one note, that's below what's available on the melody line, hits through out the song. It can be played on the melody if you start up an octave. The first phrase that Ken gave you would then start at the 10th fret. Personally, I just grab the low note on the bass and start at 3 as Ken has shown.

To folkfan,

Absolutely awesome! Thank you so very, very much. You might be interested to know that I had put aside my dulcimer, a little discouraged, quite a while ago. Then last night I happened to hear Willie Nelson playing and singing Scarlet Ribbons, and I wanted to try again to make music. You, as well as the others at Everything Dulcimer who have offered help, may be sure that I will be tuning my instrument very soon :D

Thank You Once Again !!

Did it come out readable. The cc copy that I got in the e-mail didn't look at all like the nice lines that I had typed up. Keigh/FF

In all but one line, the words and the numbers are on the same line, but since I know the tune, I am sure it will be fine to work with! I have all kinds of tab in my notebook, from professionally published to magic marker freehand.
You have done more than enough!!

I just tuned up my dulcimer and played through Scarlet Ribbons, haltingly, a few sour notes, not good enough to keep up with Willie, but, I DID IT !!! Thanks to all of you who helped me! Carol Brooks

:) Thank you for telling me that -- I just went to YouTube and listened to Belafonte's rendition -- so beautiful!! I actually believe I'm a little bit better at it today than I was yesterday -- all thanks to you folks!

It's a pretty song. I'm glad you reminded me of it. It had been in my to finish box for quite awhile. Now it's done!!!!! :)
