tuning

Help for new mountain dulcimer players of all ages!

tuning

My dulcimer is tuned currently in DAA. I am trying to tune it to DAD. Do I need to change the base string D also? I have an electric tuner.

No, you just need to tune the melody string(s) UP from A to the next higher d note. The melody strings will then be the d note one octave higher than the bass string.

...also we annotate our notes middle "C" and below as capitals. The "d" and notes above middle "C" is lower case. So tune to DAd.

Thanks for that little bit of info! I always wondered why we wrote tunings like that: case is solved!
