Need HD case

Postby Mistydawn » Thu Dec 08, 2016 10:56 am

Could anyone recommend someone who makes custom hammered dulcimer cases? The zipper on mine is giving out!
Thanks,

I had Colorado Case Company make two for me for a couple of hammered dulcimers I made. http://www.coloradocase.com Also, Folkcraft is now making their own cases and may make a custom case for you. https://www.folkcraft.com/collections/cases-bags

I know of several people (myself included) who have had terrible experiences with Colorado Case Co. - I would avoid them like the plague.

Some other companies who make cases are:
Coon Hollow Cases - http://www.coonhollowcanvas.com/musicalinstrumentcases.html
Blue Heron Cases - http://www.blueheroncases.com/soft-case-products/dulcimer-soft-case

Good luck!

I noticed that one company I'm researching has padding of 3/4" of both closed & open cell foam, while the other has 3/8" closed cell foam. I'm thinking that more padding is better, although I'm not knowledgeable about different types of cell foam. Is this an important factor?

Closed cell foam is stiffer than open cell foam. I think closed cell foam is less likely to compress and offers more resistance to pressure.

Closed cell foam is also a better insulator at the same thickness as open cell. Consequently you don't need as thick an amount. Most cases I know of are made with closed cell foam.

Thanks, JonW. I appreciate learning more about these foams. I didn't know that.

You can also find a seamstress to put in a new zipper. Ask at the local fabric stores, and they may be able to point you to a person...

If you decide to buy new, you can't be Coon Hollow in Montana. The lady has made many and they hold up. She is very dependable and follows through with an excellent case... I see the link in someone elses post here so you can get to it...
