Hanson Nylon String Dulcimer Tukanu

Postby tukanu » Tue Nov 28, 2017 1:07 pm

I completed this nylon string dulcimer this past summer.
I recently moved to Colorado and wanted to use native woods on a dulcimer.
I selected Englemann spruce for the top and Aspen for the body. The accent wood is walnut. Aspen is very light, so I thought it might work well for a nylon string instrument.
The scale is 25 ¼. The tuners are Perfection Pegs. They have the look of ebony. But are actually geared.
It comes with a nice McSpadden soft case.
Asking price is $499 plus shipping from Colorado.

Check out the "Building Dulcimers" discussion to see some construction photos of this dulcimer, and a sound byte on page 9.

Will it take steel strings?

It is built really light with a thin top and light bracing. Also the bridge may not stand up to the tension of steel strings.
