1 May to 12 June, 2017Introduction to Mountain Dulcimer Class Berkeley, CA

Introduction to Mountain Dulcimer Class

1 May to 12 June, 2017

Details

Mountain Dulcimer is one of the easiest & most fulfilling instruments to play. Once it's tuned you can hardly make a mistake. And though it's beautiful with "high piney" tunes from the Appalachian Mountains, it also lends itself to more contemporary music like The Beatles & Leonard Cohen.

In these 3 classes you learn 2 tunings, a couple of tunes each meeting, how to follow dulcimer tablature, some chords and strums to help you out with your musical pursuits. Once you've done that, you can join in on jams & ensemble classes Deborah offers.

Some loaner instruments available for a small deposit.

Teacher, Deborah Hamouris, has played mountain dulcimer since 1979 and taught it for over a decade. She has a BA in Music and gets excited about teaching music both privately & in classes. Deborah currently directs two singing groups and plays in a folk duo, The DulciMates, with husband Buffalo. In 2013 she created the Berkeley Dulcimer Gathering at the Freight & Salvage, which takes place again on 6/10/17.

Times/hours/schedule: 6 Mondays, 5/1-6/10 (no class 5/29, Memorial Day), 5:30-6:45

Cost: $130 advance/$140 after 4/25/17
