1-7 April, 2018The 15th Annual Sandbridge Hammered Dulcimer Retreat - Spring Week for Intermediate/Advanced Players Sandbridge, VA

The 15th Annual Sandbridge Hammered Dulcimer Retreat - Spring Week for Intermediate/Advanced Players

1-7 April, 2018

For the last thirteen years, I have conducted four weeklong workshops for intermediate and advanced players in Sandbridge, VA with three weeks in the fall and one in the spring. In 2016, 75 players plus 18 spouses/guests attended from 25 states. Our houses are large ocean front beautiful beach houses! There is no moving your instrument and all food is included (with a chef). All you have to do is get there!

These are intensive workshops in a wonderfully relaxed and supportive environment. It is all about developing a community of players. Expect a minimum of approximately 5-6 hours of daily group instruction as well as informal individual instruction. Evenings include special sessions as well as jamming which is sometimes “structured” and sometimes informal. Additional special sessions include a Wednesday evening “coffeehouse” featuring student performances (100% optional participant) and a “beautiful tunes” jam on Friday. And fiddle lessons!

Topics include arranging, accompaniment, technique, ear training, jamming skills, developing of listening skills, application of chord theory, improvisation and much more
Written music for all versions of the pieces.
Comprehensive summary video (DVD and private youtube links)
Chef prepared dinners
Swim in the ocean which is just a stumble outside our door
Dolphins & pelicans and other creatures!
Lots of fun & games like foosball, ladder toss, pool, hot tub, bocce ball on the beach
Airport pickup and drop off
Instruments provided
Private lodging
Lots of jamming

The Spring week is be a mixed level group of intermediate through advanced players – comparable to the fall week #2 in terms of pace. The fall first week will accommodate mostly an intermediate level while fall week #2 is geared more toward a mix of strong intermediate and advanced level players while the last week is designed primarily for advanced players. However, there is usually a mix of levels at each week. Enrollment is limited to 18-20 participants per week (but is sometimes less, depending on the week). Spouses/guests are welcome for an additional fee.

Times/hours/schedule: All day

Cost: $925 shared room
$1075 private room
