Andy Robinson  -  Mountain dulcimer, drum set, guitar, song writing

Andy Robinson

I teach mountain dulcimer, drum set, guitar, and song writing. I love teaching beginners of all ages but intermediate players are fine too. No matter what instrument I teach, I believe the most important thing is for my students to have fun and be inspired. Rather than just teaching an instrument, I teach listening and musicianship, so they can develop a relationship with music that exists beyond the notes on the page.

Holly Tannen  -  Mountain dulcimer and related European lap zithers.

Holly Tannen

I start my students with the traditional melody-against-drones style, and add gradually add in chords. I love teaching students the simple movable chord that enables them to play in three or more keys without re-tuning. I emphasize playing by ear, and adapting the dulcimer to songs and tunes students already know.
My article on "Playing Dulcimer with Other Instruments" appeared in Jean Ritchie's "Dulcimer People" and in Sing Out! magazine.

Leo Kretzner  -  mountain dulcimer, guitar (beginning-intermediate) and basics of bass.

Leo Kretzner

My ultimate approach is based on student's level and their interests. I believe the three legs of the dulcimer/musical stool are rhythm, melody and chords (harmony) and try to involve all of these at one point or another. I try to explain how things like chords and keys work from a practical aspect. I can also usually learn pieces the student is interested in and then explain/teach them.
