  4. Rest are put into a song to create momentary silence. In practical application what needs to happen is the dampening or silencing of the note/chord right before the rest. Using a finger or the edge of your hand as a barr to silence the sound works well. The attached song, Kazachok is both a song and a dance from the Ukraine, written in the 16th century. Pay attention to measure 12-13 and 20-21. After playing the 3rd note of measure 12, you silence that string, count your rest and then play the 4-4-6 chord. When played, it sounds like a hesitation. Do the same for measures
