  1. I just purchased the wrist rest, and it will be here in time for the Dulcimerquarantune workshops. Yeah!
  2. I would like to express my gratitude to this site's administrator and all of the fellow dulcimer players who contribute to this site. Whenever I come with questions, there are always people willing to offer helpful suggestions and solutions. Also, the site is so neatly organized. It is very easy to navigate, follow previous threads, and has a wonderful TAB library. Thank you all for all of the help you have given me over the past few months.
  3. The wrist rest looks like something that might work well for me. Thank you for letting me know about that product.
  4. Thank you. This has been very helpful.. I will try both suggestions.
  5. My hands are very small, so I can achor my pinkie when flatpicking, but it doesnt work when I have to strum. Suggestions for small handed players?
  6. I heard Bing Futch talk about a place he anchors his hand while strumming ( becuase he is moving all around when he plays with his band). The reason I am asking is because flatpicking and crossoverpicking is very difficult for me. I was wondering if I had some place I could kind of anchor my hand then maybe I would sense where the strings are more easily. I can strum and fingerpick just fine, but I feel like flatpicking is my undoing. Any suggestions?
  7. I have noticed that some dulcimer players have a spot on their dulcimer where they can kind of rest/balance their hand while strumming. Does anyone know what this is called?
  8. Does a "nickel and dime" height mean that a stacked penny and dime should fit under the strings or something different?
  9. Thank you for your response. I have been playinging this piece finger style, like how Nina Zanetti plays it. When I use my pick, I don't have a problem playing the notes. Its just when using my fingers that it becomes quite difficult. Suggestions?
  10. I have been working on Nina Zanetti's arrangement of Annie Laurie. I am playing this fingerstyle since that is what Nina does. However, when I get to the second half of the song I find the following: 1. Notes difficult to pluck 2. Notes sounding tinny, sharp and separate 3. Difficulty in making the music flow. 4. Some buzzing also Does anyone have any suggestions?
  11. Thank you!! This is very helpful!! Thank you for taking the extra time to include your recording. I value the wisdom that I gather at this forum.
  12. What is the difference between a wound nylon string and a nylon string?
  13. What is the heaviest guage that you have tried that doesnt change the intonation?
  14. What would a heavier guage string do?
  15. What would a heavier guage string do?
  16. I'm looking for a mellower sound. I know that nylon will be quieter, but I do like the sound of them used on classical guitars.
  17. Has anyone tried nylon strings or heavier guage strings on their standard dulcimer? If so, what was the result?
  18. I was wondering if any of you know where I might find classical pieces transposed for the dulcimer? I realize we are limited in what we can play without a chromatic dulcimer. Thanks!
  19. I was wondering if anyone has heard or played any of Jack Ferguson Appalachian Flutes & Dulcimers? I am looking for a professional quality dulcimer. Thanks for any and all input.
  20. Has anyone heard anything concerning Jack Ferguson Appalachian Flutes & Dulcimers I found his site on Etsy. He makes dulcimers with the Fishman pickup. It's a lot more affordable than a folkcraft.
  21. These are all great ideas! Thank you so much! Joining this community has been a wonderful experience for me. I appreciate all the ideas and excellent information that has been provided!
