Admin
Right now I put my dulcimers back in their case when I'm done playing, but I'd like to have get a stand for them. My main motivation is ease of access, so I can just grab one and play when I sit down in the living room. I'd also like to display them, like folks do with guitars. Does anyone have recommendations for a good stand? I did some searching, but most of what I came up with were either hammered dulcimer stands or generic instrument stands that looked like they may not work well for a dulcimer. NoterMan
I've seen purpose-built dulcimer display stands promoted on some of the FB dulcimer pages. Building a stand to hold a couple dulcimers should not be hard. I think most people hang them on an interior wall rather than putting them in a floor stand. Playing stands are another whole subject. Keyboard stands work well, as do adjustable "granny-walkers" and folding restaurant tray tables.
KWL
This is the best mountain dulcimer stand I have found. http://www.dulcimerbaglady.com/woodendulcimerstand.htm Ken "The dulcimer sings a sweet song."
NoterMan
Yea. Doug's adjustable design is a classic, and a fair price.
Marc Mathieu
I have a plan for an easy-to-build MD display stand that William Wright had shared a few years ago. Please e-mail me at: dulcimarc - at - gmail - dot - com and I'd be more than happy to share it. Marc M.

Thanks - that looks great! And reasonably priced too.

I'd take you up on it, but I'm not in a position to do much in the way of woodworking at home currently. Hopefully in a year or two. 🙂 For this time around, I've got to go for one that's already built.
Susie
I took a $10 guitar stand and converted it to a dulcimer stand by widening the width of the top bracket and making a "sling" to hold the dulcimer at the bottom. It turned out really nice, IMHO.
Marvin1952
Does anyone have a plan for a stand on which to play the dulcimer they'd be willing to share, or dimensions of an existing one? Thanks.
NoterMan
I use a collapsable waiters' tray table wooden V legs, woven straps to give the open width of the top; cost me $25 at a restaurant supply store.
Marc Mathieu
Here are the plans to build a simple dulcimer display stand.
Jon Harris
Here is on made from PVC pipe. The dimensions fit a Sweetstrings dulcimer but can easily be adjusted to most any builder's instrument. PipeStand2-3-11.pdf
Gail
Has anyone used a walker as a stand up playing a dulcimer stand? what did you add to keep dulci from sliding off when playing? has anyone added a music binder holder to the walker?
KWL
Gail, I've never tried a walker as a playing stand. I have used an X stand for keyboards and that works well. Noterman uses a tray stand that you can buy at restaurant supply stores. BTW, this thread is about stands for storing your dulcimer while not playing. You might start this discussion in a separate thread with the title playing stands or something like that. It might get more responses that way. Ken "The dulcimer sings a sweet song."
