H L Whittier 3-String dulcimer 1968

Recommended Posts

Somewhere in the last 5 years I have acquired a dulcimer with a detachable fretboard.  It came in a wooden case, and in order to fit into the case, the fretboard comes off.

It has a shall wooden peg on each side of the body, at the head and at the tail of the instrument, which allows you to use a rubber band, or a tie strap, to hold the fretboard firmly against the top while it is played.

The label inside says:

      H L Whittier & Co.

          No. 2     1968.

It is made of walnut back and sides, with what looks like spruce for the top. The top is two-piece (see photos). But it had a good volume.  Frets are not in perfect spacing, but pretty consistent.

Does anybody have into about this builder?
